When I bought my 1st Miata (A ‘91) it was October. I joined the local Miata club and went on a drive with them about a week later.
After we stopped for food, I figured I would drop the top like everyone else, even though it was in the 40s. It was fucking cold, even with the side windows up. I never did that shit again :D .

I fully plan on taking my NB to ice racing. It doesn’t have a soft top, period.
Good chance the hardtop will come off for at least a few runs :-D
